Session 2

July 26th, 2025 — Mellaril

Telling this slightly out of order, but in the middle of our adventures Kolkar did something that really impressed me. We had an IOU that had been transferred to us from the Silvercap, for some gold that a caterer owed the establishment. We visited the caterer, who told us that she was saving the money to buy a necklace for her betrothed. Kolkar suggested that we defer this payment so that she could buy the necklace, which was very kind, and also not bad for our reputation.

Back to the adventuring bit. We had met some grizzled outdoorsman named Elgert Glassgrinder, who told us that someone in the depths below the city was suffering some sort of infestation. So after sorting out that IOU, we went down there. We found a crab rancher with the improbable name Tregellon Pearlcask and he had a leech infestation. On his crabs, not him! Anyway, his beribboned prize giant crab, Lady Shimmersnip, had two of the disgusting things on her. We weren't allowed to simply cook her, so I distracted her while the others dealt with the leeches. A nip from her would take your arm off! Anyway, we disposed of them and discovered their source, which was a breach in the wall between the crab pools and the external waters made by someone doing a bit of illegal tunneling. This is like someone in Kyonin doing a bit of illegal forest clearance! Very serious. I do start to wonder if some of these events are part of something larger and more sinister going on.

We also followed up a story about a rancher named Ektar Beetsmith (Really!) who had been experiencing mishaps on his augdunar ranch. Talked to previous owner, and it turned out that the pigheaded fool ignored advise about relations with the house spirits. We had a bit of a quest by numbers to get everyone to cooperate, but eventually we placated the spirit.

Later we visited Mharsilekinass, the very bored dragon security chief of the M'beke embassy. Mhars, as I shall refer to them, turned out to have an ysoki friend, and this friend in turn had a missing younger brother named Fazil. We went and looked up this friend, Usa, and it seemed that her brother had entered a maze run by the Black Noon youth gang to vet prospective members. Now, you may recall that I had similar ideas in my youth when I was briefly involved with an unsanctioned poetry circle, but these Black Noon people seem not to be very nice at all. Fortunately, after dealing with a few unpleasant maze denizens, we were able to find Fazil and convince him to let us help. It seemed more sporting than insisting he give up after coming so far. Perhaps fortunately, we failed at the challenge at the center of the maze, so Fazil's criminal ambitions were nipped in the bud. We had to kill a few annoying people on the way out, and Faisal proved a handy little chap in a fight. Overall, he and his sister were delighted to be reunited, and I don't think Fazil will attempt anything quite so foolish for a while, at least. And I didn't make a single joke about rats running in mazes!
