Session 7 - The Disgruntled Student
December 20th, 2025 — Meera
So we finished the rest of the tunnels assigned to us today, it seems like we hit the motherlode. First Kurshkin ambushed us in the tunnels, you know, the leader of the fey incursionists, and the one that tried to kill us when we had our welcome ritual. Then we found a corner where a murdered student was hanging like some sort of trophy. Let’s make sure the academy treats him and his remaining family properly. There were more fey playing at being generals in a war. Then, last but not least, we found the room of the so-called “angry ghost”, a former student with a vendetta against the Maagambya.
After investigating the ghost, I want to say that he got what he deserved. He went against academy practices and killed some fey instead of relocating them. Then after he got kicked out, killed by the school defenses and coming back as a ghost, he convinced the last of the fey, Kurshkin, to work together for revenge. Which non-psychotic personality would do something like that? I feel sorry for Kurshkin now, he shouldn’t have had to die.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with the Academy, but it sure is still drawing certain insect types and certain ancestries. Teacher Ot has more or less confirmed that theory. Today there were 3 new students who want to join the Magaambya, and they’re all Anadi: Maztachia, Savanakin and Goss.
But there must be more at play, because they were attacked by three gryphons, who mostly kept ignoring us and went completely after the Anadi. Completely unnatural. Matuas heroically went against his own fear and changed into his Anadi shape to give the gryphons an extra target, which may have saved their lives.
I went into town to have a drink with some of my friends, as I try to do every fortnight when I’m not cramming. Normally it’s nothing worth mentioning, but I found out that some of them knew the student that was killed by the fey. I talked with them about the mask that we found, for which the Magaambya has given leave to transfer the magic that was on it, and they think that that is an honorable and practical thing to do. Some thought it was more about honoring the dead, others thought it was more about keeping others alive, but after some heated discussion it was generally agreed it is about a form of mercy for both arguments, so it’s all good.
